Vyšehrad Castle Tour (Metro / Tram + Walking, 4 hours)
On this tour, you will discover the mysterious Vyšehrad Fort which plays an important part in Czech history.
Legend has it that, in ancient times, the fort was home to the mythical princess Libuše who ruled the country from here.
You will find out how Vyšehrad became the seat of the first Czech King over a thousand years ago, becoming a military fortress in the 1600s.
Due to turbulent historical events it needed a great deal of good luck to survive. Today, Vyšehrad is a green oasis of calm offering beautiful views of Prague,
precious monuments of architecture and a cemetery of honor with tombs of world-famous artists and composers.
Highlights of the Tour:
Stunning views of Prague
Situated on a steep rock above the River Vltava, the ramparts of Vyšehrad offer wonderful views of the historic centre of the city - Prague Castle,
Petřín Hill and Vltava with its numerous bridges and islands, and the highest bridge of Prague over the valley of Nusle.
Perfectly preserves Baroque Fort
Thanks to its strategic position on the southern edge of the city, Vyšehrad used to guard the main access way to Prague.
Its Baroque gates, bastions and underground corridors - casemates - from 1600s are still preserved to our day.
Traces of ancient times
Vyšehrad offers monuments of architecture spanning almost a thousand years. You will admire the Rotunda of Saint Martin, the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul,
the Chapel of the Virgin and many more.
The National Cemetery
The 19th-century National Cemetery is a final resting place of world-famous composers Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana, the writers Karel Čapek and Božena Němcová,
and many more famous Czech people. It offers a number of precious funerary monuments, especially from the Art Nouveau period.
Legends of Old Prague
On the walk, you will hear many legends which are related to the earliest history of the City of Prague.
Princess Libuše will prophesy the glory of Prague before your eyes, the devil will try to destroy the tempel, and you will marvel
