T9 – The Old Town in Detail (3 hours)

Come and discover the oldest historic town of Prague. In its famous streets along the “Royal Route”, we will find ourselves in the middle of the hustle and bustle of this most visited Prague’s town. But just a couple of steps away, we will suddenly be surprised by quiet little squares and picturesque medieval streets. Together we will admire the beauty of the Old Town’s architecture from the Powder Tower and we will take a walk of the Jewish Quarter as well.

Highlights of the Tour:

The Celetna Street

Dating back to the 12th century, this is one of the oldest streets of Prague. You will see the House of the Black Madonna, a unique example of Cubist architecture that was inspired by Pablo Picasso’s work. We will also discover the historic buildings of the Charles University here.

The Estate Theatre

Once the theatre of Prague aristocracy, this beautiful building of Neoclassical style is the place where W. A. Mozart presented his Don Giovanni opera for the first time. Today, it belongs to the National Theatre and still focuses on Mozart’s work.

The Old Town Square

Dominated by the Gothic towers of the Tyn Church and the historic Town Hall, this square is the very heart of the Old Town. We will see the beautiful Baroque St. Nicholas Church and an impressive monument to the national hero Jan Hus. Of course, you will see the famous Astronomical Clock and find out about the way it works.

The Jewish Quarter

We will stroll through the streets of the Jewish Quarter (Josefov), seeing some of its synagogues on our way – the Old-New Synagogue, the Maisel Synagogue, the Spanish Synagogue and the old Jewish Town Hall. You will be surprised by the noble Art Nouveau beauty of the Paris Street.

The Powder Tower

This tower from the 15th century is one of the most significant monuments of Prague. You will learn about the coronation processions of Czech Kings which once used to start there. Walking up to the viewing gallery at a height of 44 metres is a bit of adventure, but our effort will be rewarded by a magnificent view of both the Old Town and the New Town.
Please note that this tour does not include the visit to the synagogues of the Jewish Quarter and the Old Jewish Cemetery. You can visit them on T10.
