T7 – The Castle Town in Detail (3 hours)
The Castle Town (Hradcany) is a unique, peaceful area situated just above the Prague Castle. Founded in the 14th century, many of its houses and streets still remember the ancient times. We will discover the noble beauty of its palaces and stroll through its winding streets with picturesque houses. You will be captivated by the spiritual charm of Loreto and see the Strahov library halls which belong to the most beautiful in the world.
Highlights of the Tour:
The Strahov Monastery
One of the oldest monasteries in our country, it used to be an important centre of science and education. We will admire its two breath-taking Baroque library halls.
Next, we will enjoy a lovely panorama of the city from the viewing terrace of the monastery and possibly refresh ourselves with a beer from its centuries-old brewery.
The Sanctuary of Loreto
Every year, Christians from all over the world come to see this remarkable pilgrimage site dedicated to Virgin Mary.
Listening to the tunes of Loreto’s carillon, we will visit the “Santa Casa” which remids its visitors of the Miracle of Incarnation. We will also meet St. Wilgefortis, the famous Bearded Virgin.
The Loreto Treasury
This treasury houses one of our largest and most valuable Church tresures, particularly a set of great Baroque monstrances. We will marvel at the subtle beauty of “the Sun of Prague”, a diamond monstrance covered with more than 6,000 diamonds.
The New World (Novy Svet)
This very quiet and charming area of the Castle district has always been a favourite hideaway place for artists. The moment you step away from the busy streets, you will truly find yourselves in another world for a while, a world of 300 years ago. It is one of the most picturesque places of the city.
The Castle Town Square (Hradcanske namesti)
Having seen the old Town Hall, we will enter the main square of the Castle Town, facing the Prague Castle. We will admire its lavishly decorated Baroque and Renaissance palaces and from the viewing terrace of the Castle, we will enjoy a stunning view of the city.
Please note: This tour does not include a visit to the Castle area. You can visit it on T5.
