T5 – The Prague Castle Tour (2.5 hours)

Come and explore the Prague Castle which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest castle complex in the world. For eleven centuries, the Czech country has been ruled over from this Castle. Today, the Czech President works within its gates. Containing a number of churches and palaces, narrow streets and humble houses of Castle servants, the Prague Castle resembles a small, intriguing town with a very rich past.

Highlights of the Tour:

The Prague Castle area

At the beginning of the tour, I will give you a short account on the history of the Castle. Passing the Royal Garden, we will cross the Castle moat and see the Castle Guards in elegant uniforms, keeping the Presidential seat safe from any harm.

The Recent Courtyards of the Casltle

We will walk through the recent part of the Castle built by Habsburg rulers and see the courtyards and buildings which are being used as a representative seat of the Presidential Office. The interiors of this part of the castle open to the public only once a year.

The St.Vitus Cathedral

In the old part of the Castle, we will visit the St.Vitus Cathedral which is the burial site of many Czech Kings. You will be overwhelmed by its uplifting Gothic interior, amazing stained glass windows and numerous works of art. You will see the charming and intimate Chapel of St. Wenceslas where our Patron Saint is buried.

The Old Royal Palace

The ancient house of Czech Kings will show you the beautiful and elegant Late Gothic Vladislav Hall which was finished at the beginning of the 16th century as the largest hall of Europe. The venue of Royal feasts and tournaments, it is still being used for special State events today. You will also see the showplace of the Prague Defenestration.

The Golden Lane

After the visit to the Basilica of St. George, the oldest preserved church of Prague, we will see the Golden Lane. This picturesque tiny street was built upon the castle wall in the 16th century to house the castle guards. Among its brightly coloured houses you will discover the one in which Franz Kafka stayed and wrote some of his books. Walking down the castle hill, we will enjoy marvellous views of the city.
